Kult creations: Reverend Cross 2

I reviewed Kult Creations first issue of Reverend Cross

Kult Creations: REVEREND CROSS 001 SECOND EDITION!

(W)  John A Short  (A)Jason Dennis
US size
B&W
28pp
£2.99

This new second edition has a new title - 'REVEREND CROSS' this time.  And it now has a full colour cover (the original was black and white -it was reviewed on the old CBO years back).  The strips remain the same as before and feature two adventures of the first ever female action hero vicar (well, not sure what the Reverend Merriwether would think about that).

The stories are written by John A. Short (The Clock Strikes, Armageddon PatrolSavage Jungle Princessand illustrated by Jason Dennis.

You can buy it by clicking on the link to Kult Creations blog to the right of this post -or the link  above. Your choice.

ALSO... Plans are afoot for more Reverend Cross later this year but not one new issue, oh no -  two! These will feature all new story and art from some of the biggest names in the small press, whoever they may be (and, no, not me).

When I first read Cross,lo those many years ago, I thought that, had this been made into a TV series in the 1960s/1970s then those spectacles and that dog collar would need to be worn by Diana Rigg! Whereas Black Tower's Rev. Merriwether tends to get his requests to investigate over a cup of tea, Cross is far more Jane Bondish (there was a British comic character called Jane Bond so there!).

Zombie Nazis.  Well, they can't be beaten unless they are Nazi zombie super soldiers.  Gunplay, kick-ass fighting and some fun dialogue and stories and you can't go wrong with that for £2.99!

And now there is a second issue....

According to Kult Creations blog:

"Celebrate 200 years of vampire fiction with Reverend Cross 002! Yes, it's the 200th anniversary of John Polidori's 1816 novel - 'The Vampyre' and to get in on the action we've produced an adventure for Abby Cross pitting her up against the undead! AND it's just in time for Halloween 2016! Find out how the first ever female vicar action hero deals with blood-sucking scum in this self-contained shocker! 24 pages of clerical ass-kicking written by John A. Short and illustrated in black and white by Gabby Noble. SAY YOUR PRAYERS!"

Now, I do not have time to scan any pages and Kult has no samples on their page and neither does artist Gabby Noble so you'll have to do with the cover. Really, I review and do not do unpaid promo work these days.

The Jason Dennis version of Cross I liked. It had a certain style to it and I looked through it again this morning and, yes, still good.

But if you have any doubts about my opinion on Gabby Noble's art then you have not read any reviews of her books on CBO!  Both Savage Jungle Princess  and Octobriana are favourites of mine and I mention this for a good reason. With issue 2 ofReverend Cross there is something missing from the art. I am not sure what it is but at times it looked almost to be rushed in places. And that writ, I have to add that it still looks good and I'd still buy a copy if I saw it! The addition of a character who looks a bit like a certain TV vampire slayer (but obviously is "not") helps things flow. Plenty of action and humour and we get to see Cross expertly handle a chopper (I'll leave that up to your own twisted mind).

Kult Creations is usually at comic events but you can buy online from their site as well as check out the other books on offer but try not to give Reverend Cross a miss!
